เริ่มต้นกันที่แทบเล็ตยอดฮิตที่เปิดตัวอย่างเป็นทางการราวเดือนมีนาคม และมียอดจำหน่ายถล่มทลายตามมาหลังจากนั้นไม่นาน ไอแพด2 มาพร้อม คอนเซปต์ประจำของพี่น้องตระกูล "ไอ" ที่มีความง่ายเป็นรากฐาน แต่เดิมเต็มความโดดเด่นเป็นกิมมิคด้วยความบาง และความเร็วที่มากกว่าเดิม แถมมีกล้องด้านหน้าและด้านหลังสำหรับฟังก์ชันการใช้งานวีดิโอ คอนเฟอเรนซ์ และเปลี่ยนมาใช้ซีพียู เอ 5 ที่ให้ความเร็วในการทำงานเพิ่มเป็น 2 เท่า เหนือชั้นกว่ารุ่นออริจินัลที่ผ่านมา

ส่วนข้อเสียที่ทุกคนต่างให้ อภัย คือไม่มีพอร์ตเอชดีเอ็มไอหรือยูเอสบีมาให้ แต่อย่างว่าระดับแอ๊ปเปิ้ลของสตีฟ จ็อบส์จะให้มาถ่ายโอนข้อมูลเหมือนสามัญชนคนธรรมดาคงไม่ได้

Delta plans $40m outlay for each of next three years

Delta Electronics (Thailand), the country's largest electronics firm by market value, is set to invest up to US$40 million annually over the next three years to expand its global production capacity.

The SET-listed electronics parts maker targets growing its revenue by 10% to $1.3 billion this year after sales fell short of target partly because of the Thai floods.

President Henry Shieh said half of this year's capital expenditure will be invested in Thailand which contributes more than 60% of Delta's revenue, with the rest to be spent on factories in Slovakia and India.

"We will invest aggressively over the next three years to expand our product range, such as wind turbine converters," said Mr Shieh.

He said Delta's revenue grew more than 10% in dollar terms last year to about $1.2 billion, but was still slightly below the original target.

The solar inverter business, which expanded eight times in terms of revenue in 2010, dropped by half from $90 million mainly because of a change in subsidies in Germany and France.

Samsung tips record Q4 operating profit of $4.5bn

Samsung Electronics said Friday it expects a record operating profit in the fourth quarter of 5.2 trillion won ($4.5 billion), 73 percent up year-on-year thanks mainly to strong smartphone sales.

The South Korean firm, the world's largest maker of flat panels, memory chips and flat-screen televisions, was publishing its earnings guidance before official results are released later this month.

It estimated sales of 47 trillion won in October-December, a 12 percent rise from a year earlier.

The company gave no specific details in its earnings guidance and did not predict net profit. It said estimates may differ from the results because it has not completed an audit.

Analysts cited by Dow Jones Newswires said the company benefited from better sales of mobile phones and high-end televisions in the fourth quarter, despite falling prices for chips and flat panels.

They said the recent sealing of a deal to sell Samsung's hard disk drive business to Seagate Technology for $1.4 billion in cash and shares also boosted overall income.

In the third quarter, the company achieved an operating profit of 4.25 trillion won on sales of 41.27 trillion.

Latest Apple iPhone to hit China on January 13

Apple on Wednesday announced that the latest version of its hot-selling iPhones will be released in China and 21 other countries on January 13.

"Customer response for our products in China has been off the charts," Apple chief executive Tim Cook said in a release.

"With the launch in China next week, iPhone 4S will be available in over 90 countries making this our fastest iPhone rollout ever," he continued.

The new generational iPhone made its international debut in October of last year, shortly after the death of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.

While not officially available in mainland China, 4S models popped up in shops there only to be bought quickly despite high premiums being tacked onto prices.

Apple prices for iPhone 4S handsets ranged from $199 to $399 depending on memory capacity.

Popular iPhone 4S features include high-definition video cameras and a quick-witted artificial intelligence "personal assistant" named Siri.

California-based Apple sold more than four million new iPhone 4S models in their first three days on the market.

นายโทรุ ชิมิซึ กรรมการผู้จัดการ บริษัท โซนี่ ไทย จำกัด กล่าวว่า "แม้ โซนี่ไทยจะเข้ามาในตลาดช้ากว่าเจ้าอื่น แต่ยังไม่สายเพราะตลาดของแท็บเลตในประเทศไทยยังมีโอกาสเติบโตอยู่เยอะ"

จับตามองอุปกรณ์ไอทีปี 2555

3 มิติยังไม่เอาท์ แอลจีโชว์ 3DTV จอยักษ์ 84 นิ้ว

เฟซบุ๊ก-ทวิตเตอร์ ทำยอดส่ง"SMSอวยพร"ลดฮวบหลายชาติ

เหล่าผู้ให้บริการเครือข่ายโทรศัพท์มือถือถือโอเปอเรเตอร์ในหลาย ประเทศบ่นอุบ ยอดการส่งข้อความสั้นทางโทรศัพท์หรือเอสเอ็มเอสช่วงเทศกาลวันหยุดปลายปีนั้น ลดลงอย่างเห็นได้ชัด ผลจากนานาบริการรับส่งข้อความระหว่างผู้ใช้ทั้งที่เป็นเครือข่ายสังคมอย่าง เฟซบุ๊ก (Facebook) หรือทวิตเตอร์ (Twitter) และที่เป็นบริการรับส่งข้อความทันใจอย่างบีบีเอ็ม (BlackBerry Messenger) หรือไอแมสเสจ (iMessage) ซึ่งทำให้ผู้ใช้โทรศัพท์มือถือหันไปส่งข้อความฟรีแทนการส่งข้อความเอสเอ็ม เอสอย่างเคย

A glimpse of the future

Such devices are among the seven amazements of the world to be unveiled by Toshiba at its Toshiba Smart Community pavilion at the BOI Fair, which opens this week at Impact Muang Thong Thani. The other innovations include the fastest (also safest) elevator, the thinnest and lightest desk PC, and the fastest-charging high-capacity ion battery SCiB _ all claimed to be world firsts and aimed at creating a smart community for the future.

The company will also showcase its efforts in accommodating green concepts in its production, with the lowest carbon footprint and the use of recyclable materials.

The pavilion will be open from Thursday until Jan 20.

China test-launches 3D TV channel

China's state broadcaster has test-launched a 3D television channel, state media said, in a bid to draw viewers and drive consumption by encouraging people to upgrade to 3D-capable sets.

Viewers in the world's largest TV audience now can watch the China 3D TV Trial Channel with a 3D TV, special glasses and a set-top box, Xinhua news agency said.

The 3D channel broadcasts three daily rotations of four-and-a-half hours of 3D content such as performing arts, cartoons, movies and sports, and promises programming from the upcoming London Summer Olympics.

State-run China Central Television launched the service Sunday, initially free of charge, with partners Beijing TV, Shanghai Media Group, Jiangsu TV, Tianjin TV and Shenzhen TV -- reaching China's biggest viewing and advertising markets.

To make up for current slim pickings in 3D programming available in China, or elsewhere, each partner broadcaster has established specialist 3D production units, Xinhua said.

The channel is due to have its full official launch on January 23 to mark the start of the week-long Lunar New Year holiday, when Chinese traditionally travel home and watch special variety TV programmes together....
