Adobe Systems Inc, a US multimedia and creativity software developer, is aiming to capitalise on the opportunity in the educational software market by offering a discount of up to 90% for the student and teacher edition of its software.

The move aims to cash in on the Thai government's one tablet per child policy.

Thailand is one out of four Southeast Asian countries, along with Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, that Adobe chose to introduce this programme.

"The move marks an important step for our digital education strategy," said Vicky Skipp, Adobe's regional director for Southeast Asia.

Ms Skipp said Thailand has a strong commitment to develop digital literacy for the nation's next-generation workforce.

The government has also fully supported digital competency as part of the country's creative economy policy.

She added, however, that Thailand needs to build up the size of its digital workforce to serve growing demand. Teachers and students also need tools to improve digital media skills.

"This is why Adobe is making software available to students and teachers at high discount prices," said Ms Skipp.
